Hi all, I'm looking to pansharpen a Landsat 7 imagery using its multispectral 30m and panchromatic 15 m bands. I started up GS sharpening tool and input the relevant files and subsets. Upon pressing OK, there is no progress bar appearing. Instead, the 'PansharpGSS' text is constantly appearing in the bottom right hand status.
I have waited for half an hour or so, but there is still no result.
Anyone has any idea on what is wrong here?
Thanks!
Regards
Corse

Do you run ENVI+IDL? If the process stops, it could be that an error occurred and it may show up in the IDLDE. If you look at the IDL console when it is no longer processing, are there any error messages?
Pan sharpening can take a while and it is not unusual to take more than a half-hour. If you leave it for an hour or more, does it complete? You could also try the process in ENVI Classic to see if the behavior is any different.

is it normal for a process in ENVI to only show up in the bottom right status? Most of the processes I encounter will show up a moving progress bar with the % completion.
A side question, is SPEAR really not suitable for a scientific analysis?

In ENVI 5.x it is common to have the status occur in the bottom right corner. In ENVI Classic, you would likely get a moving status bar.
SPEAR encompass a suite of tools all developed for scientific analysis.

What does it mean by: The resulting product should only serve as an aid to literal analysis and not for further spectral analysis. ?
Is the bottom right status bar supposed to show the progress of a process? When I ran Gram Schmidt sharpen separately, there is not separate window that pops up. However, i realise when i ran SPEAR pan sharpen, GS sharp was able to run properly. strange!
Also, when i click Envi + IDL, is it normal that only IDL shows up? The GUI when I run Envi normally doesnt appear

Are you referring to Spear Pan sharpening as a "product should only serve as an aid to literal analysis and not for further spectral analysis"? Many people use Pan sharpened products to classify images or find targets. Yes, pan sharpening does change the spectral integrity and if you are comparing images to field spectra or time series, it may not be appropriate.
Can you launch ENVI from the IDL command line when it launches?
