Hello, I'm trying to view the header information inside an ASTER Level 1B .hdf file. I have been told that inside the header file will be information (specifically, I need to find the solar zenith angle at time of acquisition) necessary for me to calculate albedo and land surface temperature (LST). The ASTER .hdf file I'm using is here: http://e4ftl01.cr.usgs.go...0120003355_23051.hdf Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Jon

You can use the 'View HDF Dataset Attributes' or 'View HDF Global Attributes' tools to view the HDF header. If you are using ENVI 5.1/5.2, you can right-click on the file in the Layer Manager and select View Metadata. In the Image Parameters it lists the Sun elevation and Azimuth.

I'm not familiar with these tools. Can you tell me where I can get them? Are they already part of ENVI (classic) or need to be installed as a new plugin?

The 'View HDF Dataset Attributes' or 'View HDF Global Attributes' tools are available in ENVI Classic under Basic Tools->Preprocessing->Data specific utilities. The metadata viewer is part of the new ENVI interface.
