I am georeferencing a series of images, to a common georeferenced airphoto base, via image to image registration. I will subsequently have to continue to georeference derivative images made from the original files (before georeferencing). I'd like to convert the saved ground control points file from image to image points, to image to map points, to free myself dependence on the original airphoto. Is there a way using ENVI to automatically extract the map coordinated for the image coordinate points from my reference base image, or a trick to do the conversion? (I have ~ a hundred GCPs per file, so I don't want to do it by hand!) thanks

There is not a way (that I am aware of) to convert image-to-image registration tie points to image-to-map registration tie points in ENVI. But if your image-to-image registration uses a georeferenced image for the base image, then you might want to consider starting with an image-to-map registration from the beginning. The easiest way to do this in the newer ENVI interface (versus ENVI Classic), is to use the SPEAR Image-to-Map Registration tool. This tool allows you to bring up 2 images, one of which is georeferenced, to pick tie points. Then in the Ground Control Points Selection dialog, you can choose File > Save GCPs to ASCII. Then proceed with the workflow as directed. Later, when you're ready to register other images with the same orientation and dimensions to the same base image, you can restore that ASCII file by choosing in the Ground Control Points Selection dialog File > Restore GCPs from ASCII. - Peg Exelis VIS
