My mac OS is Yosemite 10.10.3 and the IDL version is 8.2.0. When installing the IDL on Yosemite, the first two steps for installation of IDL to Yosemite looks fine, i.e., the introduction, the license agreement. When choosing the installation for users, the "continue" botton becomes grew and the next step of the installation can not be done. How can I fix the problem? Thanks!

Hi Xianghui, I should start out by mentioning that IDL 8.2 is not currently supported for use on Mac 10.10. IDL support for Mac 10.10 will become available at the next release of IDL and ENVI, which should be in a couple months. With that being said, here is a link to a help article which provides some additional information and links to help articles which discuss other topics in more detail. http://www.exelisvis.com/Support/Help... Specifically, I would suggest getting Java 6 and making sure you have X11/XQuartz installed and updated. The third article included in the link discusses uninstalling and re-installing X11/XQuartz which may be a good idea as well. It may not hurt to re-boot your machine if you have not done that since IDL was installed.

Thank you for your reply! Because of the installation problem for 8.2, I migrate my old idl7.1 to Yosemite. After fixed some problems for dylib, lib z, I can run it in the terminal. However, when I start with the command "idl" in the terminal, it shows the information as follow: UserMacBook$ idl IDL Version 7.1.1, Mac OS X (darwin x86_64 m64). (c) 2009, ITT Visual Information Solutions Error: eBadXPPATH: Bad value for XPPATH (~/resource/xprinter) % Error opening printer. Installation number: ********** Licensed for use by: ********** And it caused a problem for plotting: IDL> a = findgen(100)/!pi IDL> plot, a % PLOT: Error opening file. File: ~/resource/fonts/hersh1.chr No such file or directory % Execution halted at: $MAIN$ How to fix it? Thanks! How to fix this new problem? Thanks!

I set the XPPATH to /Application/itt/idl/resource/xprinter in my .profile file, and the error for XPPATH is gone. But the problem for plotting is still the same, i.e., IDL> a = findgen(100) IDL> plot, a % PLOT: Error opening file. File: ~/resource/fonts/hersh1.chr No such file or directory % Execution halted at: $MAIN$ I guess it is due to the environment variable setting problem, but I have not solved it yet.
