There are various reasons an image would be displayed in a "skewed" orientation in ENVI. One might be if the image has been projected into a map projection from its original orientation. That can sometimes require a sort of rotation of the image, that ends up looking skewed when north is oriented up. It can also happen if the display already has an image with a different map projection in it, then you load this image. In that case, ENVI will reproject the image on the fly to match the projection of the first image, which can also result in the image looking skewed.
If when you display the image all by itself (no other layers in the display first) it doesn't look skewed, then the best way to keep the display from using a different coordinate system that requires rotating the image will be to always display it and its derivatives alone without other layers in the display.
