I have about 50 roi's that are stored within just one .roi file, and I would like to gather statistics within each one of the roi's but I can't figure out how to do this in ENVI (I am using 5.1). When I use basic tools>compute statistics I can subset stats with an roi, but when I highlight all 50 of mine it computes stats across all 50 roi's like they are one, when really I want stats for all 50 of them individually. I could select all 50 individually but I want to avoid doing this (maybe I need to use IDL?) Is there a way to do this with ENVI? EDIT: I want something like the Region Of Interest Statistics discussed here, but Region of interest tool>Options > Compute Stats From ROIs is not an option in 5.1 http://www.exelisvis.com/docs/Statist...

If you need to use ENVI 5.1 (versus ENVI 5.2 or 5.3, which have new ROI tools), then you will probably want to do this in ENVI Classic. You can find the ENVI Classic associated with your ENVI 5.1 installation on a Windows system by choosing Start > All Programs > ENVI 5.1 > Tools > ENVI Classic. In ENVI Classic, the tools at the link you included will be available. Regards, Peg Exelis VIS

Actually it looks like it might just be options>calculate co-variance with stats. I think that might be what I want

Oh, darn, you are right! I totally missed that it was there now in the main ENVI interface's ROI tool. That tool has changed quite a bit in recent releases of ENVI. Not long ago, there were no ROI tools in the main ENVI interface (they were only in Classic). In ENVI 5.1 a new ROI tool was added, but it called the option you are looking for "calculate co-variance with stats." In the 5.3 version, the statistics option is named "Compute Statistics from ROIs", as is shown in the documentation you linked to. The documentation on our web site will always refer to the latest version of ENVI. So sometimes you do see slight differences like this in the names of parameters or other options, if you are using an older version. Apologies for the confusion. - Peg
