    Still cannot license new install of IDL 8.6.1 on Mac Desktop

    Get "unable to retrieve computer information. Is your license activate utility installed correctly?
    License Directory:/Applications/harris


    Failed to activate"

    suggestions?

    Hi Robert,

    It seems that permissions on the license directory are not sufficient in your installation. This is preventing IDL 8.6.1 from being able to retrieve your computer's information for licensing. This can happen on Mac OSX when the installing user has elevated, but not full, permissions.

    To fix this, set the permissions to add READ and WRITE to the flexera AND license directories. The two commands needed are below:

    chmod a+rw /Applications/harris/license/flexera
    chmod a+rw /Applications/harris/license
