My Red Hat Linux has two discrepancies from your SuSE: - My 'Visual Class' is "TrueColor (4)", yours in "DirectColor (5)" - My 'Translation table' is "Enabled", yours is "Bypassed"! In IDL 6.0 For Linux RSI reported some problems with "flashing colors". My memory is that IDL version 6.0 generally did not like Linux's switch to defaulting "Direct Color" as opposed to "True Color". RSI published a Tech Tip at URL: http://www.rsinc.com/serv...echtip.asp?ttid=1688 that might help you switch default color mode, and that would probably solve your problem, IF the problem is indeed coming from 'Direct Color'. If the 'Translation table' setting is the problem all by itself, I am not sure what to do about that. You may want to do a Google search on how to "Enable" the 'Translation table'. James Jones
