Hi Ben, I was trying to use FLAASH for my hyperspectral data atmospheric correction, but it is not processing any data and continuously showing error messages (ACC_AUTOCHAN: No water absorption channels selected). I fixed Error-1 by choosing water absorption band, but I never understand why it is still showing Error-2 (ACC error: convert7; IDL error: End of input record encountered on file unit:0); ACC_CONVERT7 <(9)> ACC_HYPER2<(784)>.... I am also attaching my FLAASH restore file. Let me know how I can correct it (Error-2)? Thanks, Keshav

Can you post the contents of the template.txt and the error at the bottom of the journal.txt that is produced in the output directory specified in the FLAASH interface?

What sort of sensor are you using? It looks like the sensor altitude is set to be lower than the ground elevation, which would cause an error: enviacc.modtran.sensor_altitude = 0.0500 enviacc.modtran.ground_elevation = 0.5000 These values are set in kilometers, so the sensor is only 5 meters off the ground and the ground is 500m high.

Thanks for reply. It means if I am flying my hyperspectral camera on a UAV at 40m altitude from ground, I need to put 0.540 as my sensor height (enviacc.modtran.sensor_altitude = 0.540), Right? It was running now but I got the weird reflectance spectra of the vegetation, as shown below, Let me know why it is like that? If you get very high or low values like this it typically means your data are in the expected input units of microW/(cm^2*sr*micrometer). Can you post your statistics of the input file? If the data are in these units, they will typically range from 2-30 or so. FLAASH is very sensitive to the input units of data.

Try a scale factor of 10. If you don't know the input units of your data, you should instead use the QUac tool. It is created by the same developers of FLAASH but uses a different method for estimating reflectance. If you have background in your image, you should include a mask for those pixels when running QUac. http://www.harrisgeospatial.com/docs/QUAC.html

The input units of my Radiance data is W/m^2/sr/um. What does it mean, "Try a scale factor of 10"? How I can try it during FLAASH? There is an statement, "QUAC performs a more approximate atmospheric correction than FLAASH® or other physics-based first-principles methods" (Ref: http://www.harrisgeospati...backgroundquac.html) It means QUAC is weaker than FLAASH and so associated with more errors, right? How I can include a mask for those background pixels? Please specify. Thanks a lot !

When you select your data for input to FLAASH, it prompts you to enter a scale factor that will be divided into the data cube to convert the data to the expected units of microW/(cm^2*sr*nm). If your data are in the units you say, then a scale factor of 10 should be used. Quac is very similar in output to FLAASH. You are more likely to get poor results from FLAASH if you do not enter appropriate parameters for your data. I often run both processes and they are usually very close. May I know what I need to put for "Spacing Multiplier" at the Set FWHM to band spacing (critical sampling)? Why did you change the width of your FWHM values? They are now wider than the spectral bands themselves. Wavelengths and FWHM values do not change with the units of radiance.. Were you provided FWHM values from the data provider or instrument? If not, then you can leave them out of the header information. FLAASH can estimate the FWHM values. Also, you are using the .94um water feature: enviacc.prj.water_band_choice = .94 It is likely to fail using a feature this close to the end of your spectral cube. You should try the .82um feature instead.

Here are the average spectral data from QUAC and FLAASH respectively. It seems FLAASH showing some blunder between 756-788nm and 905-975nm range with a Gaussian type curve. I don't know what you mean by a 'blunder'. FLAASH and Quac use two different methods for estimating surface reflectance. FLAASH is sensitive to input parameters and Quac is sensitive to background pixels (areas of no data) that should be masked. Since your collection is very low to the ground with fewer atmospheric effects, you could try increasing the initial visibility estimate in FLAASH since you cannot perform an aerosol retrieval with your data. Also note that the data output from both methods are scaled by 10000. If you divide the data by 10000, you have percent surface reflectance. The differences in reflectance can be quite small.
