I have IDL installed on a handful of computers running Mac OS X High Sierra. I installed the 8.7 version of IDL on about six of these machines. One installation showed the error below about a day after the install, and another one about two weeks after the install. In both cases the error was present for all users of the machine. Rebooting did not help the problem. I uninstalled and then reinstalled IDL 8.7, and it has worked since. I was hoping to get a better understanding of what may be causing this error before I roll it out to the lab machines. I want to avoid having multiple computers run into this problem mid-semester. Thanks for any help you all can give.

Try deleting the contents of the /Harris/license/flexera directory. Then activate the license on the system again. Does this help?

Thanks for the quick reply, Mari. I currently don't have a computer that has the issue - as I mentioned in the original post, completely reinstalling has solved the problem for now. I'll put your suggestion into our documentation for the future, though. This is a much easier solution for me than reinstalling. Thanks!

This problem (or at least a similar one) seems to have up again. Removing the license/flexera directory and reconnecting to the license server unfortunately did not fix the issue. The error message I am getting is this: (null): [1,7E1,8,0[70000023,0,F0039]] Storage anchor break found. : Storage anchor break found. (code : 1879048227) (cll_internal.cpp : 498) (code : 1879048227) (CLLFloatingLicenseThread.cpp : 473) CLLFloatingLicenseInitialize failed to start the license thread. (null): [1,7E1,8,0[70000023,0,F0039]] Storage anchor break found. : Storage anchor break found. (code : 1879048227) (cll_internal.cpp : 498) (code : 1879048227) (CLLFloatingLicenseThread.cpp : 473) CLLFloatingLicenseInitialize failed to start the license thread. Unable to obtain an IDL license. What is interesting is that we're getting this exact same error on a couple different clients: a computer running Mac OS X High Sierra, and a CentOS 7 server that multiple users log into. Ordinarily, I would assume that this is a licensing server issue, but other clients with IDL installed are working well. It is only these two machines that are running into problems. Rebooting the Mac had no effect. I've tried googling around for "Storage anchor break found 1879048227), but haven't had much luck. Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.

I made a clone of the Mac that was having the error in my previous post and can replicate it on one of my own machines now. I reinstalled IDL 8.7.2 on the professor's iMac, and this has resolved the issue for the time being. I'd like to have a proper fix for this, though, because reinstalling IDL every time the license client breaks isn't a good long-term solution. Are there any logs I can provide to make debugging easier? Thanks.

This error is due to many client machines sharing the same /flexera-sv directory and the file under this directory can become corrupt. It is likely related to multiple users rewriting and opening these files simultaneously. Because /flexera-sv was only introduced in IDL 8.6.1 and ENVI 5.4.1, this error will only happen on these versions and newer. The quick fix for this issue is to delete all CONTENT of the /flexera-sv directory on the mounted installation. This should allow client machines to begin checking out licenses again. A better work-around is to set up a symbolic link to point to a local location (not on the network mounted drive). This will create unique /flexera-sv folders for all client machines and prevent the corruption issue. https://www.harrisgeospatial.com/Support/Self-Help-Tools/Help-Articles/Help-Articles-Detail/ArtMID/10220/ArticleID/21289/Howwhen-to-move-flexera-and-flexera-sv-folders-to-a-different-directory-than-the-default-one
