I want to use something like the divergence or Jeffreys-Matisota distance equation to determine the optimum subset of bands to use when classifying my image (I have several texture layers and topographic layers in addition to the spectral layers so it would be nice to reduce the dataset if possible). Do I have to write a code for this in IDL or is there anything built in? Any tips? Thanks!

Transformed Divergence and Jeffries-Matusita separability measures are available through the Region of Interest menu group in ENVI. To use them, you can go to Basic Tools->Region of Interest->Compute ROI Separability in the main ENVI menu or Tools->Region of Interest->Compute ROI Separability in an ENVI image window. This functionality is not programmatically available.
