FLEXnet error -8,xxx “Invalid license key” Encryption code in license file is inconsistent

After installing the permanent license information via the licensing wizard, a form of the following error message appears when starting ENVI or IDL:

% LICENSE MANAGER: "Invalid license key"
Encryption code in license file is inconsistent
The hostid of this system does not match the hostid
specified in the license file

This error could be the result of one of the following:

• The server on which the license manager is running has a different hostid than the one in the license.dat file.
• The license.dat file has been corrupted or is incorrect. This can happen if the file was incorrectly copied or changes were made in the SERVER, DAEMON, or one of the INCREMENT lines.

Solution/Workaround

• Instructions on how to determine the hostid can be found in Help Article 4043. This hostid can then be compared against the one in the license file. If they don't match a new license.dat file needs to be built.
• Check the license file capitalization and spacing to make sure that it is exactly the same as the license file that was sent.
