How to Upgrade Node.js in NGLS 4.6 from v24.18.1 to v24.22.1 on a Linux System
This article describes the steps used to upgrade the bundled Node.js runtime within the Next Generation License Server (NGLS) 4.6 from Node.js v24.18.1 to Node.js v24.22.1 on an Ubuntu 24.10 (x86_64) system.
Note: These steps were performed on Ubuntu 24.10 (x86_64) with NGLS 4.6. Please ensure that you download the appropriate Node.js package and use the correct commands for your operating system, architecture, and NGLS version.
Step 1 - Stop the NGLS Service
sudo /usr/local/nv5/license_server/node/bin/node /usr/local/nv5/license_server/service.js stop
Step 2 - Download Node.js
Important: Keep the same major Node.js version that is bundled with your NGLS release. For NGLS 4.6, only Node.js 24.x versions should be used.
download the correct node.js installer for your system from the node.js website: https://nodejs.org/dist/v24.22.1/
for the ubuntu 24.10 (x86_64) system and NGLS 4.6, the following installer was used:
"node-v24.22.1-linux-x64.tar.xz"
Step 3 - Extract the Archive
tar -xf node-v24.22.1-linux-x64.tar.xz
Step 4 - Optional Backup
sudo cp -a /usr/local/nv5/license_server/node /usr/local/nv5/license_server/node_backup
Step 5 - Copy Updated Files
Copy the extracted Node.js files into the NGLS Node.js directory:
sudo cp -a /home/YOURusername/Downloads/node-v24.22.1-linux-x64/* /usr/local/nv5/license_server/node/
Step 6 - Verify the updated node.js Version
/usr/local/nv5/license_server/node/bin/node -v
Expected: v24.22.1
Step 7 - Start NGLS
sudo /usr/local/nv5/license_server/node/bin/node /usr/local/nv5/license_server/service.js start
Step 8 - Verify the NGLS Service status
sudo systemctl status nv5geospatiallicenseserver.service
Then, open a web browser and enter the URL "http://localhost:4080/dashboard".
The NV5 License Server Dashboard should be displayed. If the dashboard opens successfully, the license server is running and responding to requests.
If there are any questions or issues, please contact Technical Support team and include the following information:
- License server log files from NGLS 4.6 are located in: /var/log/nv5-license-server
files of interest: "license_server.log" and the "license_server.2026-xx-xx.log" of the last two days if available.
______
Note for SELinux systems (e.g. Rocky Linux / RHEL): When copying the updated Node.js files with cp -a, SELinux labels from the source directory may be preserved. This can prevent the NV5 License Server service from starting. If the service reports a startup failure after the update, restore the default SELinux labels with: restorecon -Rv /usr/local/nv5/license_server/node
