Licensing MPEG for IDL / FAQ

THIS INFORMATION ONLY PERTAINS TO SOFTWARE VERSIONS IDL 8.5, ENVI 5.3 AND PRIOR

This Help Article will assist you with how to add mpeg licensing to your IDL license.

Please note, IDL 8.1 introduced the "IDLffVideoWrite" object that utilizes additional codecs and functionality that might not be supported by the idl_mpeg feature, and it is already distributed with IDL 8.1 and above licenses.  For more information regarding the "IDLffVideoWrite" object, please see our online documentation center.

Below will answer most common questions encountered regarding the IDL Mpeg feature:

Can mpeg be added to my license?

The idl_mpeg feature can be added to any license that is current on maintenance.  If you are interested in adding the mpeg feature to your license, please contact Exelis VIS technical support.  Please note that only license administrators will be eligible for requesting the idl_mpeg feature.

What is the cost of the idl_mpeg feature?

The idl_mpeg feature is free of cost to add to any license that is current on maintenance.  

My license is expired, however I would like to add the mpeg feature to my license, what do I do?

Please contact your account manager here at Exelis VIS for assistance with renewing your license or purchasing a new license to support the IDL mpeg feature.  You can find contact information for your account manager here. Please note, new licenses built for IDL 8.1 or above contains the IDLffVideoWrite object that may cover functionality you would like to use.

I would like to add mpeg to a license online, can I do that?

Due to restrictions regarding mpeg being a third-party offering, unfortunately we are not able to provide access to adding the mpeg feature via our website.  This can be requested during the purchase process, or please contact Exelis VIS technical support for assistance.

I have a Virtual Machine application or have created an IDL application that was created using the mpeg feature, can I obtain a license to use the mpeg feature in the Virtual Machine?

IDL Runtime licenses are available for execution of non-standard IDL functionality in the IDL Virtual Machine.  You can contact your account manager at Exelis VIS for assistance with purchasing an IDL runtime license.  You can find contact information for your account manager under the My Account section.

What versions of IDL support mpeg?

The idl_mpeg feature is available for all versions of IDL 6.2 and above.
