Dear All, I'm trying to run IDLDE 7.1.1 from a remote host (spectral), using an x-server, on my pc (rbantges). However, the x-server crashes each time before completing the IDLDE window (notably, no fonts are displayed). An image of how far the process gets before crashing is attached at the end of this message. The remote host computer reports the following error: "IDL Workbench: Fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server rbantges:0.0".  I'm able to successfully run many other applications via the x-windows client (e.g. Firefox, xterm, etc..). I'm also able to run IDL via the command line on the remote host, and display IDL plot windows (I've not checked IDL widgets) on my pc. I can therefore only assume it's something to do with the fonts, or eclipse on the linux 64 bit platform.  incidentally, if I connect to a Sun running SOLARIS 10 (SPARC 64bit), I can successfully run a remote IDLDE 7.1.1 session, so I do not think it's a problem with Hummingbird eXceed. Also, if I am physically at the remote linux host (spectral) I can run IDLDE without any problems. A colleague running Redhat Linux on his desktop is able to run the same IDLDE 7.1.1 from spectral remotely on his desktop.Other users running the eXceed x-server software (32bit versions) also encounter the same problem - so it's not just restricted to 64bit Windows. Again, I feel this indicates a problem at the source - i.e. the host machine running the IDLDE (spectral), and how the fonts / IDLDE interface is translated through the x-client. I understand this is quite complicated, but I've tried to cover all immediate potential questions. Remote host "spectral (where IDL 7.1.1 is installed - floating licence - authenticates against a SOLARIS server running flexlm) Broadberry Cyberstore 316S Supermicro X8DTL-IF Motherboard 24GB ECC RAM, 2 x Xeon E5530 Redhat Linux AS5.4 (64bit) - fully patched, all latest drivers Local host "rbantges": (pc on which I'm running the x-server) Dell Optiplex 745 8GB RAM, 1 x Core 2 Duo E6600 Windows 7 Enterprise (64bit) - fully patched, all latest drivers Hummingbird eXceed x64 version 13.0.0.222 Below is a screen shot from my pc. Notice that the IDLDE window is drawn, but no fonts are displayed, and numerous boxes are present.

Well I've managed to fix my problem by using the Xming X-server. So it appears there is a compatability issue with eXceed x64 2008 running on Windows 7 64bit / Redhat. Or, maybe there is a problem with my eXceed configuration but it seems odd that it works with SOLARIS (SPARC) but not Linux.
