I have a need to, in an IDL/ENVI function, perform band math on subregions of a (in this case, Landsat) image. I know this can be done by subsetting the image from the start, and performing band math on the subregions as separate images; however, I would much prefer to perform the bad math on each subregion while it is within the full image, if this is possible.. This would prevents my having to make a mosaic of the separate regions, later. Is this possible?? If it IS, I'd love to know how! thanks, Cyndy

There is no way to process a part of an image and have the result still be contained within the full image. You would still need to mosaic the separately processed parts. I would not subset the image prior to band math though. I would instead use the DIMS keyword to specify which part of the image I want to process at a time.
