I need to analyze HiRISE image data in ENVI 5.0. I apparently need a toolkit that I'll add to ENVI. However, this link: http://www.exelisvis.com/groups/index.asp, which I found here: http://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/jp2.php, does not contain toolkits to download. And this PDF doc: http://www.exelisvis.com/...envi/ENVI_HiRISE.pdf contains a link for the toolkits, but the link is broken. How can I analyze HiRISE data in ENVI?

There is a HiRise toolkit available in the Code Library you can try: http://www.exelisvis.com/...x?tabid=1540&id=1296

Thank you. I did the installation and got an error message when I finished step #6: "File c:\Program Files\Exelis\ENVI50\Classic\menu\envi.cfg .. Problem: Unable to write to this file." But qlook.jp2 images show up in all three classic viewer windows. I added "envi_hirise_motion" to a text field in Preferences, per the instructions, and it's there when I open up the Preferences dialog. So I'm assuming it's working.

I followed the instructions in the HiRISE Toolkit guide, moving the toolkit to the save_add subfolder and datum.txt and ellipse.txt to the map_proj subfolder. The instructions that show the steps to analyze a HiRISE image involve menu options that are not available in ENVI 5.0. And map_proj and save_add are subfolders of the "classic" folder, so it seems I would have to start an older version of ENVI to follow the guide and use the HiRISE Toolkit. But I don't know how to start an older ENVI version. Also, it would seem strange that ENVI 5.0 can't work with HiRISE data. I have the DEM Extraction Wizard license. I am trying to work through this tutorial: http://www.exelisvis.com/.../DEM_Extraction.pdf. When I do steps 5 and 6, clicking the Select Stereo Images button and clicking OK, it opens a dialog box titled "Select File Containing RPC Coefficients". When I click Cancel on that dialog box, I get a message saying my HiRISE stereo pair image does not have the required RPC coefficients. I may need to "build RPC's", as the tutorial says, but I cannot find a document that shows me how to do that in ENVI 5.0. What I want to do is topographical analysis. How can I use ENVI for elevation and distance data?

ENVI will typically open the datasets (PDS, JP2, etc) but the toolkit will extract additional information from the file and provides a metadata reader so you can see the file parameters. It is an older extension so it only works with ENVI Classic and older versions of ENVI. If you are using Windows, you can find ENVI Classic under the All Programs->ENVI5->Tools. DEM Extraction only works with images that have RPC information. I don't believe Hirise data contain RPCs but perhaps this information is available from the data provider. RPCs are used to describe the sensor to ground relationship.
