I'm trying to use IMSL routines on IDL Mac 64-bit, without success (see error in subject line). There is no 32-bit version available for download here for the Mac. I'm given the impression that this must be a generic problem Any advice on how to proceed?

I am afraid that IDL is no longer available for 32-bit Mac OS X, which means that the Mac platform no longer has access to the Advanced Math and Stats (IMSL) module for IDL. An alternative that some customers have used is to run IDL on Windows or Linux instead. For example, some customers use Parallels (to host a Windows or Linux VM running within their Mac OS X system) or Bootcamp (to dual boot Mac OS X and Windows). We do have a current request to add support for the IMSL routines for IDL on Mac. Unfortunately, these routines come from a third party, which does not support Mac. One option we have, from an IDL development point of view, is to gather more information about which IMSL routines are needed by IDL users, and implement them ourselves in IDL. Would you be willing to let us know which IMSL routines you are hoping to use in IDL? I would be happy to log a request for those specific routines to be added to IDL itself. - Peg Exelis VIS

I am trying to use imsl_random on a Mac running IDL 8.5.1. my IDL has never heard of imsl_random. I want it to simulate numbers from a Weibull distribution. On the help page for this routine, http://www.harrisgeospati...ocs/IMSL_RANDOM.html it says it is in module, "Math and Stats", a button, but the link to that is dead. and on the upper left of the page it says, "Harris Geospatial / Docs Center / IDL Reference / Advanced Math and Stats / IMSL_RANDOM" so maybe I need an advanced math and stats module. I cannot find that.

So, any help getting something to simulate Weibull distributed numbers would be really helpful.

    Thanks,

Any routine with the 'imsl' will require the Advanced Math and Stats module, which is a for-cost add-on. Unfortunately, it is not available on Mac OSX. One option would be to run Windows in parallel on your Mac, move your license to the WIndows and obtain the Advanced Math and Stats module for that platform.
