IDL Workbench error on Solaris: The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.

Topic:
Problem Description:

IDL 7.0 Workbench on Solaris 10.8 may fail with the following error:

The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.

(The full error message is listed in the DISCUSSION section below.)

Discussion:
Cause

The problem can be caused by the presence of the following Solaris patch:

    119059-38 X11 6.6.2: Xsun patch

--which has been reported to prevent Eclipse-based applications (like IDL 7.0 Workbench) from working.

Solution:

It has been reported that applying the following subsequent Solaris patch will resolve this issue:

    119059-40

Here is the full error message that contains the key error string mentioned above.

The program 'IDL Workbench' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
    (Details: serial 363 error_code 11 request_code 131 minor_code 5)
    (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
