Explanation of Macintosh Native Install versus Macintosh UNIX Install

THIS INFORMATION ONLY PERTAINS TO SOFTWARE VERSIONS IDL 8.5, ENVI 5.3 AND PRIOR

When downloading any items listed as "Product Download" you will notice there are two versions of the Macintosh installer: UNIX and Native.

The Macintosh Native installer uses the Macintosh Native environment to provide a more GUI based installation, which we typically recommend for ease of use. The UNIX installer uses the X11 Terminal environment for installation. The program that is ultimately installed is exactly the same.

Please note, we do recommend using the "Installation Instructions" that are available on the download page for either option.

If you encounter any problems with either version, please contact the technical support team.
