Windows 7 error message: Unable to write to this directory.

When trying to write a file or after making changes to files, an error dialog displays containing the following message:

“ Problem: Unable to write to this directory.”

This message typically indicates that there are no permissions to write to a directory. This is caused by enhanced security features in the Windows 7 operating system. To change permissions, log on and perform the following steps:

Note: These steps may need to be done by a system administrator.

  • In Windows Explorer , right-click the Exelis or ITT folder
  • Select Properties from the drop-down menu
  • Select the Security tab
  • Add the affected user name and check Allow for Full Control, Modify, Read & Execute, List folder contents, Read, and  Write

This should correct the problem.
