What to do when the L3Harris License Administrator (HLA) can no longer be started
If the L3Harris License Administrator (HLA) can no longer be started, the following steps might help:
1. Close all ENVI / IDL sessions
Double check in the system manager, if all sessions are closed.
2. Try to run L3Harris License Administrator (HLA) with admin/sudo permissions
Windows: Right click on the HLA and run as administrator
Linux/Mac: Open the terminal and enter “sudo harrislicense”
If the problem persists, try the next step.
3. Delete the ".idl" folder or move it to another directory of the machine
This folder can be found in the following directory:
Windows: C:\Users\<username>
Linux: in the user /home directory
Try to start the HLA afterwards. If the problem persists, try the next step.
4. If the following license folder exists on the machine
Windows: C:\ProgramData\Harris\License
Linux: /tmp/Harris/License
open the folder and delete all files inside started with “cllshm...”.
These folders and files can be hidden, so be sure the system file explorer is showing hidden items. (View > show hidden Items)
Try to start the HLA afterwards. If the problem persists, try the next step.
5. For Linux/Mac OS: close your current X session and open a new one
Try to start the HLA afterwards. If the problem persists, try the next step.
6. If previous steps are not helping, activate/deactivate the license in command line using the Licensing Utility
The appropriate commands can be found on the following Help Article under chapter “Licensing Utility”:
https://www.nv5geospatialsoftware.com/docs/envi-install.html#Utility
7. If nothing helped or if you need assistance, contact Technical Support and send the following details:
- A screenshot of the occurring error
- The name & version of the operating system
- The ENVI/IDL version
- The ID of your license
