Blurry Effect in ENVI/ENVI Classic on Windows 10

While working with ENVI/ENVI Classic, the user interface may appear a little bit blurry. The following article describes how to fix this behavior.

This blurry effect only occurs when starting ENVI without IDL.

Here is an example of this blurry effect:

ENVI (blurry):                                           ENVI+IDL (not blurry):

Solutions:
There are three solutions to remove this effect.
If the customer cannot or does not want to change his/her screen resolution or display scale, please skip to solution 3.

1. Change the resolution of the monitor.
 - Right-click on the Desktop > Display Settings> Display> Resolution

2. Change the scale of the screen:
 - Right-click on the Desktop > Display Settings> Display> Scale and Layout
 - In the “Change the size of the text, apps, and other items” area set the value to 100%

3. Change the DPI settings for IDL Runtime

- Go to: C:\Program Files\Harris\ENVI55\IDL87\bin\bin.x86_64
- Right-click on idlrt.exe and select Properties.
- Go to the Tab “Compatibility” and change "Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by: Application" to Yes

You can also go to “Change settings for all users”> Change high DPI settings, if you want to change it for all Users

Please restart ENVI afterwards, so that the program can apply the new Settings.
