How to add a subversion (SVN) connection in IDL without an internet connection

When attempting to upload a subversion (SVN) connector to IDL, it is expected that the machine has an internet connection available to download and install the content.  However, in some situations (such as in classified environments), it may not be possible to have an internet connection available.  The below instructions could be used to install the connector without an internet connection.

Note: Admin or root/sudo privileges may be required to modify the IDL installation.

Note: for IDL 8.8.3 and higher versions, the below approach can also be considered

Installation of an SVN connector to IDL

  • From a machine with an internet connection, download the zip file containing an appropriate version of the SVN Subversive connector jar files.  For example, from the following link:

        https://community.polarion.com/projects/subversive/download/eclipse/3.0/builds/

            You might download the file:

            Subversive-connectors-allplatforms-3.0.6.I20140624-1700.zip

  • In the target machine, create a folder called "eclipse" in the dropins folder.

    For example, for Windows:

         C:\Program Files\Exelis\IDL84\bin\bin.x86_64\dropins\eclipse\

            For Linux:

           /usr/local/exelis/idl84/idlde/dropins/eclipse/

            For Mac OS X:

           /Applications/exelis/idl84/idlde/dropins/eclipse/

  • Unpack the downloaded file and then copy the "features" and "plugins" folders from the zip file into the new directory:

  • Start the IDLDE and the connector plugins should be properly loaded and functioning.  Be sure to enable Subversion support by checking the Subversion item in the Window > Source Control Tools menu:
