"Unidentified developer" warning when attempting to install Exelis VIS products on Mac OS X 10.8.2 or later

If an Exelis VIS installer, for example the IDL 8.2.2 SP2 installer "InstallIDL82sp2_Mac.pkg", is executed in a Mac OS X 10.8.2 or later by double clicking in the file icon, a warning message might appear. The message is:

Solution

Clicking in the question mark of the message above will give you some background information as to why this message happens, and there will be some instructions to fix this issue as well. See screen shot below.

The instructions are:

  1. Press the Control-key and click on the IDL 8.2.2 installer. Or simply, right-click on the installer (if the right click functionality has been enabled)
  2. Choose Open from the pop-up menu
  3. Click Open.


After doing this once, the user will be able to open the Exelis VIS installer in the future by just double clicking it.
