Deconvolving spectra 1692 1
Started by Deleted User
Hi,
I would like to know if there is any IDL library/function that can help me to deconvolve near-infrared sprectra in order to remove the spectrometer PSF from the data. I have searched a lot, but I could not find anything that does the job. Thanks a lot in advance if you can help.

IDL 6.4 crash on linux Xlib: unexpected async reply 1180 0
Started by Deleted User
After much expectations and promises from itt to fix idl crashes in 6.4 release, I do not see much change.
There was a significant imporvement compared to the previous behavior, but still it is very hard to do
anything useful as IDL crashes on SECOND plot operation, not the first one.
The sometimes an error is reported like this:
Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x1673c)!
(of cource, the number changes)
and sometimes no error is reported.
Are there any expectations that ...

idl install on the SGI machine with SuSE Linux. 1429 1
Started by Deleted User
I hope to install idl 6.4 on my school's SGI machine which is supported by SUSE Linux.
But I failed to install idl_linux.x86_64.tar.gz on it.
The problem appears as follows:
hutingaltix-2:~> idlde
/usr/local/bin/idlde: line 496: /usr/local/itt/idl64/bin/bin.linux.x86/idlde: cannot execute binary file
/usr/local/bin/idlde: line 496: /usr/local/itt/idl64/bin/bin.linux.x86/idlde: Success
I found James Jones answer a similar question.

scatter plot 2D 1D 1127 1
Started by Deleted User
Hi,
I'd like to create a scatter plot with two independent variables and one dependent variable.
The values of the dependent variable shoud be displayed as a colour range in the plot, and the two independent variables are to be shown on the x and y axis respectively. Shouldn't be too difficult. In fact, you can see such a scatter plot in the preview of the iTools wizard, but it seems that you can't get this scatter plot as an end result.

Started by Deleted User
My startup.pro file is not working for me. I changed all the corresponding paths to the right directories but then it tells me theres an error in Line 23. Line 23 is usually blank. However, if I put in the words 'end', save the file, exit IDL, then run IDL again, then it gives me a syntax error that at line 23 where the 'end' is. Could somebody please tell me how to get this startup.pro file to work Thank you.

rectangle of values around x,y coordinates 1090 1
Started by Deleted User
Hi,
I have a bunch of x,y coordinates. I need to plot them. However, I also need to add a rectangle of values around them of arbitrary length and breadth. i.e. give values to the pixels around the center pixel so that a rectangle is 'drawn'. Furthermore, to complicate matters more, I need my rectangle to be tilted by a certain angle.
I could go with a for loop and assign neighboring pixels values by pre-determining which pixels they will be. However, I would think there is a more elegant way...

ActiveX control works under 6.1/6.3 but not 6.4 1115 0
Started by Deleted User
I have been using the Catalyst SocketWrench ActiveX control in my IDL programs to create a socket server that throws events when data arrives at a port. The current IDL socket code does not allow this without a great deal of overhead/CPU time.
My code uses the WIDGET_ACTIVEX call to link in the socket tool, and it works just fine under IDL 6.1 and IDL 6.3. When I try to run it under IDL 6.4, the WIDGET_ACTIVEX line works OK, but the code crashes the first time I try to set/get a property...

Hello,
I am trying to find the intensity of a pixel and its surrounding

I have a list of x and y coordinates as my points of interest. I want

obtain a mean of those 9 pixels. I want to do this for all my
coordinates, so I will be using a for loop to go from one coordinate
to another. Is there a quick way of ...
