I have grayscale images and wish to highlight specific, fairly large groups of pixels in each image, e.g. by re-coloring those pixels.

I have arrays of all the pixels to highlight for each image.

Overplotting with a transparent mask seems like an arduous way to go about this.

Is there a better way?
