    Hello everybody!

I want to open MODIS data with ENVI 5.5.2 on my 64 bit Windows 10 machine to use it in the Georeference MODIS tool. The data is in *.hdf format that is supported by ENVI. I'm using the MOD11_L2 product, which contains 7 subdatasets/layers. One of them is the LST (Land Surface Temperature) layer I'm interested in. But out of those 7 subdatasets only 5 show up when opening the *.hdf file (Quality, Latitude, Longitude, Emis 31, Emis 32). The LST and Error_LST layers unfortunately do not show up. I tried opening it via drag and drop, open as MODIS and open as HDF4 but none of that options work.

Am I doing something wrong or is ENVI not able to recognise MODIS data?

There are many MODIS products and ENVI does not support every product directly. However, you can open the data as a scientific data set. Can you try opening the file using File->Open As->Scientific Formats->HDF4? You will see the available data sets of the HDF file including those that do not automatically open.
