FLEXlm license manager support for Red Hat Linux 9

THIS INFORMATION ONLY PERTAINS TO SOFTWARE VERSIONS IDL 8.5, ENVI 5.3 AND PRIOR

Topic:

Customers using Red Hat Linux 9 who attempt to start the FLEXlm binaries from IDL versions 5.6 or earlier will encounter this error message:
Incorrectly built binary which accesses errno, h_errno or _res directly. Needs to be fixed.

Discussion:
Although we do not officially support IDL versions 5.6 and below on RedHat 9.0, several customers have successfully installed IDL-based products on this platform. The above error message is due to an incompatibility between the FLEXlm lmgrd binary and the GLibC version 2.3 libary from RedHat 9.0.

Work-around:

To address this error message, replace the file lmgrd in the /idl/bin/bin.linux.x86/ subdirectory with the latest version of the file (Intel Linux Glibc 2.3, Redhat v5.x), available from:

Once the new binary for the license manager launches, the system may still display the above error message twice. However, the license manager administers available licenses correctly.Solution:
