FLEXnet error -89,xxx "This platform not authorized by license"

THIS INFORMATION ONLY PERTAINS TO SOFTWARE VERSIONS IDL 8.5, ENVI 5.3 AND PRIOR

After installing the license file via the license wizard the following error message appears when attempting to start ENVI or IDL:

    % LICENSE MANAGER: This platform not authorized by license.
    Feature: idl
    Platforms: x64_n <> ppc_mac, i86_mac, x64_mac
    License path: C:\Program Files\Exelis\license\license.dat;C:\Program
    Files\Exelis\license*.lic;
    FLEXnet Licensing error: -89,310

This error message most commonly occurs when the operating system that the license file is built to does not match the operating system that you are trying to run the license on.  For instance, this error will occur if the license file is built for a Windows operating system, but you are trying to install and run the license on a Macintosh OS X.

Solution:
The license file will need to be rebuilt to support the proper platform.  Depending on your license and maintenance setup, you may be able to do this directly through the web licensing portal.  If not, you will need to contact our technical support team at support@exelisvis.com to determine if your license and maintenance setup will allow you to build the license to a different operating system.

Note:
In the past, this error commonly occurred on Macintosh computers with license files that did not incorporate the Mac Intel Platform.  If this is the case, the license needs to be rebuilt to include the Mac Intel platform. The new license.dat file should contain a line similar to the following:

    HOSTID=ANY PLATFORMS="i86_n \
       x64_n i86_re i86_r amd64_re ppc_mac i86_mac" \
