FLEXnet error: -92,xxx "Feature removed during lmreread..."

THIS INFORMATION ONLY PERTAINS TO SOFTWARE VERSIONS IDL 8.5, ENVI 5.3 AND PRIOR

After installing the license file via the license wizard, the following error message appears when attempting to start ENVI or IDL:

% LICENSE MANAGER: Feature removed during lmreread, or wrong SERVER line hostid.
    Feature: idl
    FLEXnet Licensing error: -92,147

This error message is usually indicative of a problem with the 'license.dat' file which can be caused by one of the following situations:

1. The HostID in the 'license.dat' file is not the same HostID found on the license server
2. The 'license.dat' file has been corrupted

Please refer to Help Article 5321 for instructions on determining the correct HostID of the license server.  If the HostID in the 'license.dat' file does not match the HostID found on the license server, the license file will need to be rebuilt with the correct HostID information.  Depending on your license and maintenance setup, you may be able to do this directly through the web licensing portal.  If not, you will need to contact our technical support team at support@exelisvis.com to determine if your license and maintenance setup will allow you to rebuild the license file using a different HostID.

If the HostID in the license file matches the HostID of the license server, it is likely that the license file has become corrupt.  Please generate a new license file through the web licensing portal or contact our technical support team to have a fresh copy of the license file sent.

Note:
There have been some instances of this error message being displayed, albeit misleadingly, when all ENVI or IDL licenses available for use have been taken.
