Stopping and Starting the UNIX FLEXnet License Manager
THIS INFORMATION ONLY PERTAINS TO SOFTWARE VERSIONS IDL 8.5, ENVI 5.3 AND PRIOR
Either one of the following scenarios may necessitate the need to restart the FLEXnet licensing manager:
- A change to the license.dat file
- Installing an updated license.dat file
- Installing a newer version of ENVI or IDL
- System shutdown or unexpected service interruption
UNIX/Linux
Note: Users need to be logged in as 'root' or have super user ('sudo') permissions
- Start
- Change directory into: /usr/local/exelis/idl8x/bin
- Run the command: ./lmgrd -c /usr/local/exelis/license/license.dat
- Stop
- Change directory into: /usr/local/exelis/idl8x/bin
- Run the command: ./lmdown -c /usr/local/exelis/license/license.dat
- See if lmgrd is up
- Change directory into: /usr/local/exelis/idl8x/bin
- Run the lmstat command:
- From the server: lmstat -a -c /usr/local/exelis/license/license.dat
- From the client; lmstat -a -c 1700@server_name

If the license manager hasn't been installed follow the steps below. Keep in mind that installation directories may be different on different operating systems:
Install the license manager:
- log in as 'root', or 'sudo'
- Change directory into: /Applications/exelis/idl8x/bin
- Run the command: ./lmgrd_install
