Either one of the following scenarios may necessitate the need to restart the FLEXnet licensing manager:

• A change to the license.dat file
• Installing an updated license.dat file
• Installing a newer version of ENVI or IDL
• System shutdown or unexpected service interruption

UNIX/Linux

Note: Users need to be logged in as 'root' or have super user ('sudo') permissions

- Start

• Change directory into: /usr/local/exelis/idl8x/bin
• Run the command: ./lmgrd -c /usr/local/exelis/license/license.dat

- Stop

• Change directory into: /usr/local/exelis/idl8x/bin
  
• Run the command: ./lmdown -c /usr/local/exelis/license/license.dat

- See if lmgrd is up

• Change directory into: /usr/local/exelis/idl8x/bin
  
• Run the lmstat command:
  - From the server: lmstat -a -c /usr/local/exelis/license/license.dat
  - From the client; lmstat -a -c 1700@server_name

If the license manager hasn't been installed follow the steps below. Keep in mind that installation directories may be different on different operating systems:

Install the license manager:

• log in as 'root', or 'sudo'
• Change directory into: /Applications/exelis/idl8x/bin
• Run the command: ./lmgrd_install
