Silent install instructions for Next-Generation License Patch on Windows

BACKGROUND:

Silent installation is a way to install our Next Generation licensing patch for our ENVI / IDL software without the need to click through the user interface. This is beneficial to users that want to install the software on many computers at once. A silent install allows you to begin the installation on each machine and walk away.

NOTE:
-Silent installation is only possible on Windows platforms.
-The silent installation will detect and patch all supported legacy ENVI/IDL installations (versions ENVI 5.4.0 to 5.6.3) on your machine. ENVI 5.3.2 and prior versions cannot be patched.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) First open a Windows Command Prompt window, running as Administrator.

2) Navigate to the location of the patch installer and issue the following command and flags to start the silent installation:

setup-l3harris_nextgen_license_patch202-win.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NOCANCEL /FORCECLOSEAPPLICATIONS

where:

  • SILENT tells the installer to display only the installation progress window, but not the installation wizard and background window.
  • VERYSILENT prevents the installation progress window, installation wizard, and background window from displaying.
  • SUPPRESSMSGBOXES tells the installer to suppress message windows. This flag only works when combined with SILENT or VERYSILENT.
  • NOCANCEL prevents the user from cancelling the installation. It disables the Cancel button and ignores clicks on the Close button. This flag is also used in combination with SILENTor VERYSILENT.
  • FORCECLOSEAPPLICATIONS tells the installer to force a close when closing applications.

3) Delete files that are no longer needed:
During the silent installation and depending on your patched ENVI/IDL version, some files will be moved from your ENVI/IDL installation to "C:\Windows\" instead of being deleted.
Therefore, if needed you can now use the following commands to delete these files (depending on your patched version, the below folders can appear):
rmdir /s /q C:\Windows\bin.x86
rmdir /s /q C:\Windows\bin.x86_64
rmdir /s /q C:\Windows\bin.x86.x86
rmdir /s /q C:\Windows\bin86.x86
rmdir /s /q C:\Windows\bin86.x86_64
rmdir /s /q C:\Windows\sav
