FLEXnet error -25,xxx: Server system does not support this version of this feature

THIS INFORMATION ONLY PERTAINS TO SOFTWARE VERSIONS IDL 8.5, ENVI 5.3 AND PRIOR

After installing the license via the license wizard and starting the license manager service on a server machine, the following error message appears when attempting to launch an ENVI or IDL session:

% LICENSE MANAGER: License server system does not support this version of this feature.

FLEXnet Licensing error: -25,147

• This error commonly occurs if the version of the license manager on the server is older than what is supplied with the newly-installed version of ENVI or IDL.  When upgrading to a new version of ENVI or IDL, it is recommended that the license manager software is upgraded to the most recent version.  The most recent version of the license manager can be downloaded from the Exelis VIS webpage.  If you are receiving this error, download and install the most up-to-date license manager software from our webpage and restart the license manager service.  If you are working on a Windows machine, the old license manager service will need to be removed from LMTools prior to starting the new service.  For more information on removing the old license manager service, please see Help Article 5254 .
• This error can also occur if the installed version of ENVI or IDL is newer than the version referenced in the license file.  This can be corrected by updating the license.dat file on the server machine to the latest release.  If the license file is the most recent available make sure that any variables pointing to the license file are updated.
