FLEXnet error: -9,xx "Invalid host, The hostid of this system does not match the hostid..."

THIS INFORMATION ONLY PERTAINS TO SOFTWARE VERSIONS IDL 8.5, ENVI 5.3 AND PRIOR

After installing the permanent or activated license via the license wizard, a form of the following error message appears when starting ENVI or IDL:

    % LICENSE MANAGER: Invalid host
The hostid of this system does not match the hostid
    specified in the license file
    Feature: idl
    Filename: C:\Program Files\Exelis\license\license.dat
    License path: C:\Program Files\Exelis\license\license.dat
FLEXnet error: -9,57. System Error: 2

To determine the HOSTID of the operating system in question please refer to steps below:

Windows

  1. Click on Start > (All) Programs > LMTools > System Settings(tab) and refer to the value indicated at the 'Ethernet Address' location. This value is also known as the HOSTID.
  2. Compare this 'HOSTID' value against the 'HOSTID' value found on the INCREMENT line(s) in your ENVI or IDL license file.

Unix / Mac

The lmhostid program obtains a unique FLEXnet hostid from your machine. To run lmhostid, change to the installation directory, EXELIS_DIR/idl8x/bin, and type ./lmhostid at the UNIX prompt. The output should look like this:

The FLEXnet host ID of this machine is "8002add0"

Note:
The system hostid command might not return the same required FLEXnet value that the lmhostid command returns.
For example, the following IDL license feature line:

    INCREMENT idl idl_lmgrd x.x00 1-jan-0000 0 EC3B7DA4CA19E85C0A71 \
    VENDOR_STRING=000011ITTVIS HOSTID=00b012345678 ck=123

...is built for the hostid "00b012345678"

If the HOSTID information obtained from lmhostid is different from what is listed in the license file, the license will not work with your machine. The license HOSTID value cannot be altered by a user without invalidating the license. If the HOSTID of the machine on which you are installing is different from that of the license, you must request another license.

Special Note:
This error message may also occur with a node-locked license on a laptop that is attached to a network connected docking station.
