How to determine the product version of IDL, ENVI and Exelis Products FlexLM License Server installed on a computer system

This help article describes how to determine what version(s) of IDL, ENVI or Exelis Products FlexLM License Server is installed on a computer system.

Windows

On a Windows system, launch the "Programs and Features" (or equivalent, such as "Add or Remove Programs" on Windows XP) Control Panel utility and look for all installed IDL, ENVI or License Server items with the Publisher listed, for example, as"Exelis Visual Information Solutions,..." or "Exelis, Inc.", and then see the associated Version column information for that product.  For example, for the installed product, ENVI 5.3 SP1+IDL 8.5, here is the Program and Features control panel utility item details:

Name: IDL 8.5 and ENVI 5.3,SP1
Publisher: Exelis Visual Information Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Harris Corporation
Product version: 5.3.1.0

Also for the Exelis FlexLM License Server 8.5.1 installer, here are the Program and Features control panel utility item details:

Name: Network License Server
Publisher: Exelis Visual Information Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Harris Corporation
Product version: 8.5.1.0

Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X

On Linux, Solaris and Mac, you can determine the base product version installed through the name of the associated main IDL or ENVI product directory installed the machine.

On these platforms, the default product installation location depends on the version of IDL, ENVI associated with that product. Below are the default main product directories for IDL and corresponding ENVI products going back to IDL 8.0 and ENVI 4.8. The Exelis Products FlexLM License Server product version corresponds to the IDL version included with the installation.

Note: To determine the minor dot-dot release version of the product installation, please refer to the "version.txt" file that is included in the main product directory referenced above. For example, for IDL8.5.1, the associated version.txt file contains the string "851".

Getting the product version from an ENVI or IDL session

You can also get the product version from a running ENVI or IDL session:

  • From an IDL Workbench (IDLDE) session, select the workbench menu item Help > About IDL.
  • From an IDL session IDL> command prompt, issue one of the following IDL commands:

HELP, !VERSION
HELP, !VERSION, /STRUCTURES

  • From an ENVI session, select the ENVI menu item Help >About IDL.
