Use Upload Vector to ArcGIS Portal to upload a shapefile from ENVI to an ArcGIS Portal or ArcGIS Online account.

You can also write a script to upload shapefiles using the UploadVectorToArcGISPortal task.

  1. From the menu bar, select File > Publish > Upload Vector to ArcGIS Portal.
  2. In the Input Vector field, select an input shapefile.
  3. In the Portal URL field, enter the URL of the ArcGIS Portal (i.e., https://username.maps.arcgis.com or https://arcgis.com). If you set the URL to arcgis.com, the shapefile will upload to ArcGIS Online.
  4. In the Username field, enter an ArcGIS login username with publishing permissions. The username is case-sensitive in ArcGIS.
  5. In the Password field, enter an ArcGIS login password.
  6. Optional: In the Item Name field, enter a name for the published resource. This name will appear in the "Content" on the server. You can only edit the item name after it is created on the server. If you do not specify Item Name, the default name will be the input shapefile filename. If the item name already exists on the server, the tool will fail.
  7. Set the Publish Service option to Yes to upload and publish the shapefile to a feature layer that can be viewed using an Esri map layer. If you set it to No, the shapefile will be uploaded but you cannot view it in a map layer.
  8. To reuse these task settings in future ENVI sessions, save them to a file. Click the down arrow and select Save Parameter Values, then specify the location and filename to save to. Note that some parameter types, such as rasters, vectors, and ROIs, will not be saved with the file. To apply the saved task settings, click the down arrow and select Restore Parameter Values, then select the file where you previously stored your settings.

  9. To run the process in the background, click the down arrow and select Run Task in the Background. If an ENVI Server has been set up on the network, the Run Task on remote ENVI Server name is also available. The ENVI Server Job Console will show the progress of the job and will provide a link to display the result when processing is complete. See ENVI Servers for more information.

  10. Click OK.
