After you have added the desired nodes and connectors, the model is ready to be validated and run. Validation ensures that required input parameters are present, all parameter values are valid, and all connections and output parameters are configured properly. ENVI will automatically validate a model before running it, or you can perform model validation as an independent step.

  • To validate and run the model. click the Run button , or select Code > Run Model from the ENVI Modeler menu.
  • To validate the model without running it, select Code > Validate Model from the ENVI Modeler menu.

Validation problems include errors and warnings. If your model has errors, you will not be able to run it. If your model has warnings, these are recommendations that you should note, but you can still run the model.

If you have an ENVI+IDL license, nodes will be highlighted as the model runs. Green nodes are steps that completed successfully. Bright yellow nodes indicate an error. When an error is found, model processing stops at that node and an error message will display the details of the problem.

You can also run the model debug mode, run it in the background while you do other work, and automate repetitive tasks by scheduling the model to run at a specific interval.

  • To run the model in debug mode (requires an ENVI+IDL license):

    • Select Code > Run Model in Debug Mode from the ENVI Modeler menu. When the model runs, an Execution Report dialog reports the execution times for individual nodes and for the entire model. It also reports the values used for task parameters.
    • To save the report to a text file, click the Save button in the Execution Report dialog.
    • To copy the report to the system clipboard, click the Copy button in the Execution Report dialog.
  • To run the model in the background, click the down arrow next to the Run button and select Run Model in the Background.
  • To run a model automatically on a schedule, click the down arrow next to the Run button and select Run Model on a Schedule. For details on using the Scheduler, see Run Models on a Schedule.
